Nearest Airport to Lake Como There are two main options to reach Como from Milan Malpensa Airport: by car or by train. By Car The drive from Malpensa Airport to Como takes about 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic. From the airport, take the A8 motorway (Autostrada dei Laghi) towards Milan, then merge onto the A9 motorway heading towards Como/Chiasso. Continue on the A9 until you reach one of the exits for Como: Como Sud (recommended for southern or central parts of the city), Como Centro (closer to the city center), or the final Italian exit before the Swiss border, which is "Lago di Como". Choose the exit based on your exact destination in Como. Note that the "Lago di Como" exit is the last one before entering Switzerland. Italian highways usually have toll booths, so be prepared to pay using cash or a card or to be paid online. By Train From Malpensa, take the Malpensa Express train to Saronno (about 20 minutes). At Saronno station, change to a regional train towards Como Lago. The train ride from Saronno to Como Lago takes about 40 minutes. Trains run frequently during the day, and total travel time is around 1.5 hours. Tickets can be purchased at the airport train station or online.
