Jibreel and I met on a friends’ trip in BC in 2018 and bonded over a love of gin and the beauty of the Pacific North West! Somewhere between mixing cocktails and wandering abandoned railway tunnels, we also discovered that we nearly met six months earlier at Jibreel’s birthday party in Hawaii… except he didn’t show up. (He claims there’s an explanation. Jury’s still out.) From that fateful weekend on, we became experts in the 3 hour drive between Vancouver and Tacoma, border crossings, and fun-filled weekend adventures. Eventually, Jibreel decided to make the ultimate romantic gesture and immigrated to Canada to be with me. And yes, I still occasionally ask if he really loves me, just to keep him on his toes. 😉

Fast‑forward to our adventure in the Philippines, a trip that included island hopping, new friends, thresher sharks, whale sharks, and endless sunscreen... for one of us. After weeks of exploring, we found ourselves soaking in one of our last ocean views of the trip… and Jibreel proposed! Let’s just say the answer came quicker than swimming towards the whale sharks.
