We met on a dating app and immediately hit if off after talking about our love for cooking and spicy food. After days of chatting over the app, Jia reluctantly agreed to meet for a dinner date. From our first date alone, it was clear to both of us that we found someone truly special- we talked about all of the “things you shouldn’t bring up” such as politics, religion, and family, but we had a blast getting to know each other. After spending 7 hours laughing over life’s little pleasures on our first date, our budding relationship began to blossom. After our first date, we were inseparable. Finding any excuse to see each other and spend time together. Quickly our friends and families realized that we were lucky to find each other because we were a perfect match (and also because we are both a bit crazy [the right kind]). Three year,s ago we took a trip to China and Wayne met all of Jia’s family, and although there was a language gap, they found their own way communicate (mainly through jokes, eating too many skewers, and drinking too much Chinese Liquor). After that trip it became clear, we were not only perfect for one another, but also that our families were already becoming one. Shortly after our trip, Wayne had proposed and our next chapter began.
It was on their 17th months anniversary and Wayne decided to "take Jia out for dinner to celebrate". It was just a normal Sunday and Jia was on her weekend routine, went for her Taekwondo class and did her nails (which turned out to be the perfect timing). Jia really hates Sundays, and they even joked about " You are not going to propose on a Sunday, right?" months ago, and Wayne goes " No! Never!" (such a liar). They arrived at the waterfront at Exchange Place Jersey City earlier than the dinner appointment (which was planned out by Wayne) and Wayne suggested “go for a walk by the water”. Jia thought it was just a normal walk and happily agreed. When they were walking Wayne started to point out how beautiful the sunset looked with the city view and even pointed the buildings and clouds randomly (which turned out just a distraction to cover all their friends, family and photographer hiding on the other side of the road). When they’ve reached to the bench where Wayne learnt his first Chinese word. He stopped Jia and gave Jia a long sweet speech which later on Jia claimed to not remember any of those words. Clearly, she was in complete shock (even though she insisted that she knew this was coming the entire time) and she did not realize the photographer was capturing all these precious moments along the way. After Wayne got on one knee and Jia said yes, all their friends and family shouted congratulations out, when Jia just realized all of them were hiding behind the trees the whole time. After the proposal, Jia found out Wayne started a group chat and coordinated with everyone using his project management skills months ago. He even included a map with directions of where he’s going to walk Jia to the spot.
