Her Story: It's no surprise that we would meet each other at a Crossfit gym. Je'Von moved to Orange County in August of 2012. Now living by the beach it only seemed appropriate that she would need her "beach bod" year round, thus starting her Crossfit journey early 2013. It was through a co-worker at Orange Lutheran that she had been referred to Crossfit Tustin. Her co-worker had mentioned that the owner was a really good Christian guy who had a small gym in Tustin. After a bad experience (and a bit of stubbornness) of trying out another Crossfit on her own, she contacted the owner of Crossfit Tustin. After a few brief and to the point emails/text messages she made her way to Crossfit Tustin. Little did she know what would come next... His Story: Jevon had begun training at my gym years prior to getting together. She had always existed in the periphery of my thought as a cool and cute girl, but we were both attached elsewhere. As time went on I began to enjoy her friendship a bit more than maybe I even realized. I became acutely aware of my crush on her as I watched her begin to date someone else. It was at this point that I decided I needed to make a decision. The problem was navigating out of the friend zone and trying to figure out if my calculated risk may pay off. Ultimately I decided it would pay off and I wanted to take the risk. After years of friendship I decided it was time for more.
Her Story: We went to Victoria Beach in Laguna & hung out for a few hours. As we walked back up to the Jeep, Joel asked if he could go look at the Raptor Truck (which is always parked on the hill). The truck was MIA but we kept driving. We found this cool dirt spot that overlooked Laguna. When Joel told me to get out of the car, I was completely oblivious to what was happening. We talked for a bit & as I was getting into the Jeep Joel stopped me.. after a very long pause he asked me to be his wife. I said yes! His Story: I really wanted Jevon to feel special and be surrounded by people she loves and that love her. I planned to have her Mom come down from WA along with my family & our friends to be at my house for a surprise party post engagement. I knew I wanted to ask her to marry me somewhere by the beach in Laguna because no one does that really, so I wanted to set the trend. The Saturday we got engaged we had planned to go to the beach & just relax. Our friends had decorated my house for the surprise party & I knew we had to be there between 6:30-7:00pm. As we were "relaxing" I was paying attention to the clock & still deciding where exactly I was going to ask the question. As it was time to leave I decided that we were just going to drive to the top of the hill that was right by where our car was parked. As we were driving the road swung to the left & there was a large empty lot with a perfect view of the ocean. There were 2 signs saying no trespassing but the lot was perfect so I pulled in and parked. We looked at the view, hugged, talked & then walked back to the car to get in. As we were getting in I stopped her & had Jevon face me. It was at this point I realized I hadn't really anticipated how lame things sound when you are about to ask someone to marry you. I fell silent for a good thirty seconds. It took me that long to decide there is no limping into that question, so I got on a knee & asked Jevon to be my wife. She said yes.
