Once upon a "Woo!"... Matt was a part-time DJ at a high-intensity dance cardio studio called 305 Fitness, and Jessie was a devoted client who vocalized her appreciation of Matt's girly pop music selections during class with happy noises from her spot in the back row. (She's always late.) After two years of cheers, Jessie found out through some locker room talk that DJ Matt was finally single. Thanks to her aggressive social media liking and strategic class attending (She even went to his 7 ams, y'all), Matt got the hint and sent her a Facebook message. Its contents? "Played soooo many Jess Glynne songs in class today. You definitely missed out..." A week later, they were on their first date. "305 'til the death of me." -Pitbull (and us)
On January 6, the coldest day of 2018, Matt took Jessie out to dinner at their favorite NYC taco joint. Towards the end of their meal (after the churros, obvi), Matt received a frantic call from his boss. There was a "problem with the audio" at 305, and Matt was the only one in the neighborhood. He apologized to Jessie and agreed they'd swing by and check it out. When they arrived at the studio, Matt left Jessie cozied up by the heater upstairs. A few minutes later, he called from the basement, "Jess, this is gonna take longer than expected. Why don't you just come down?" As she approached the staircase, she saw it was lined with candles as "Hold My Hand" by Jess Glynne, ~*~their song~*~ , came on over the speakers. Matt—a little nervous, but mostly excited—was waiting at the base. He reminded her it'd been almost a year to the day that he'd returned to the city after spending five of the first six months of their relationship in California. Then he told her, "I moved back to New York partly because I needed a job, but mostly because I needed you." Then, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. (I KNOW, RIGHT!?) She exclaimed, "WOO! YES!" and — of course — cried. After big hugs and more tears, Matt pulled Jessie around a corner for another surprise. He opened a door to the main studio room to reveal dozens of friends gathered to celebrate with Oreos and Prosecco. Matt had pulled it off; he'd proposed using all the sentiment of 305, without any of the sweat.
