Against the Odds

Their story begins at a Gaelic Football fundraiser and it was love at first sight once Liam asked Jessie.... "Want to buy a raffle ticket?". After spending hours together that night hopping from the Irish Heritage Center to the Kerryman and watching the sunrise at the beach, Liam suddenly found himself on the phone with American Airlines, changing his flight home just to spend another week in Chicago. During that week, they had their first official date (Cubs vs. Sox Game), binge-watched "The Summer I Turned Pretty", and threw one last house party in Wrigley. Even after just seven days, they both knew this was something special. About a month later, Jessie's parents were in town for the Notre Dame game in Dublin and Liam went out of his way to meet them... only a month into them talking. The following month, he returned to Chicago for Jessie’s best friend’s wedding, where he officially asked, “Will you be my girlfriend?” From there, their relationship became 1.5 years of long-distance - full of trips, invisible strings, and unexpected connections. Liam went to ACE at Notre Dame, Jessie went to Saint Mary’s, and somehow they never crossed paths at NEWFS. Fun fact: they even matched on Hinge two years before meeting in person and shared more mutual friends than they could count. In April 2025, on a special trip to Italy, Liam got down on one knee and proposed at Jessie’s favorite spot, Villa Borghese. That summer, they dove headfirst into the green card process, bringing Liam across the world, and successfully closing the distance for good. They can’t wait to celebrate in both of their homes: Ireland and Chicago. Liam has become such an important part of Jessie’s family and friends in Chicago, and now they are excited to bring those people along to see where Liam grew up and meet his family and friends in Ireland. It means so much to them to share both of their worlds with the people they love most, and they are so grateful to have you with them on this special day!
