RISD Museum Visit

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

RISD Museum, Chace Center entrance
20 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02903

We really love to visit museums together. Our many conversations about how art impacts people's lives have been important to us both. We also love college museums, where the scale of a visit is so focused. Often a college museum building is reminiscent of the grandeur of larger museums, but with a gentleness that can be moving. Sometimes all it takes is one piece to transform the day and provide a window into new possibilities. We love the idea of having a long conversation with each other, our friends, and artists that develops slowly over time with each visit. Carl and his sister Sara grew up at the RISD museum, drawing the Buddha, the marble busts, the suits of armor, and the characters on Greek vases. Larger than your typical college museum, the RISD museum has many rooms and spaces of different types to explore. We would love to look at art with whoever wants to come and feel like it would be a great way to get to know new things about each other.

Bowling in an Old Mill

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

We will be going duck-pin bowling before the rehearsal dinner. This is a bit of a special bowling alley. The lanes are old and made of wood. You can wear your own shoes! It is also located in a beautiful, strange, massive old mill building where we almost had our wedding ceremony. Today, the building is a very busy, incredibly friendly work environment for hundreds of artists and start-ups. It is in Pawtuckett and illustrative of the best thing about Providence and the surrounding areas: artists can afford to be there, they often stay after graduating from one of the many schools and there are neat buildings like this where communities can form & people can make work of different sorts. We can reserve up to 6 lanes (6) for 6 people each at a time, so let us know if you want to join ($3.50/person/hour) - we will need to know October 1st. There is also a bar with food. We would also love to get to run around the building with whoever wants to come.

Dinner

6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Attire: Anything Goes, but if the weather is nice there may be swimming

The rehearsal dinner will be open to all guests and will be at Carl's parents' house in Providence. We wanted to have our wedding in Providence so that we could use the house to get to spend this extra evening in a relaxed setting with so many of the people we care about. No one lives in the house anymore, since Carl's parents have moved. Nevertheless, Jessie has spent a fair amount of time there, since we all often return for Holidays. We both feel like she is at home there too and we are excited to share this part of Carl's growing up with those of you that can come. Food will be served, which will consist of buffet style salads, grains, salmon, and other yummy things. There is a pool, which, if the weather is nice, will be open. There will also be board games available, beer, wine, and lots of talking - and possibly Nintendo and ping pong.

Waterfire

9:45 pm - 11:00 pm

Waterfire is a happening in Providence! It was an art installation that stayed and expanded. It is composed of a long series of torches in the center of the Providence River that are lit by volunteers dressed in black in mysterious barges. They look like fire gods when they add logs to the piles. The city plays dramatic medieval / operatic music and hundreds of people wander the River and bridges. There are also gondolas. You can only learn to make gondolas in Venice if you study for 10 years. One dude from Providence did so. There are food trucks + other things. It's actually pretty cool. It's also incredibly melodramatic, in a silly endearing way. It's also chaotic, and causes traffic. Jessie and Carl may not go, since they are getting married the next day, but its part of Providence and a way to experience the city. It begins at 6:20 pm and is between the hotels and Carl's parents' house, so it might be wise to consider when traveling to and from the rehearsal dinner.

Pre-Wedding Fun Run

8:00 am - 8:45 am

Attire: Running Gear

We are going to do a low key 5k fun run the morning of the wedding - all running abilities are welcome! If you want to join, meet us in the lobby of the Omni Hotel at 8am.

Wedding Ceremony and Reception

4:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Attire: Suits, nice clothes, and dresses - so long as you can dance in it!

The ceremony and reception are both at the Providence Public Library. Guests can begin to arrive at 3:30 for the ceremony, which will start right at 4:00. The Providence library has beautiful clerestory windows and so we want to do the ceremony while it is still light. Afterwards there will be cocktail hour, which will be followed by dinner, for which the menu is entirely vegetarian. Then there will be several hours of dancing. Our DJ is really cool. He believes in privacy. Photos won't be posted online.
