While we would love to share our special day with everyone, we completely understand if you can't make it for any and all reasons. We only ask that you tell us / RSVP as soon as possible if you know you can't go so we can adjust accordingly.
We love your little ones, but this celebration is for adults only - thank you for making it a trip just for the grown-ups!
The Yucatan Peninsula tends to be one of the most humid parts of Mexico so embrace your floofy hair. January is the coldest month of the year but it's still fairly warm by our standards. Plan for lows in the mid 60's, highs in the mid 80's and average during the day is somewhere in-between. It may also rain for short periods of time or be windy and overcast. Jessie needed a sweatshirt or jacket most nights because she's a weather weeny.
Nope! Playa del Carmen is a very popular travel destination, as such, the vast majority of bars and restaurants near the resort will speak English. You may run into some difficulty at convenience stores but nothing you can't manage with some mime work and a smile :)
On our last trip to Mexico we didn't use pesos once as USD and cards are accepted most places if you're in a pinch. However, you will be getting a poor exchange rate if you go that route and incur card fees. If you want to save some money, avoid fees, and pay for things a bit easier then I'd grab pesos. Plan on bringing cash regardless, there's a Money Exchange at the end of the block on the corner of Calle 38 & 5th Ave. I'd avoid the airport as there are typically large fees when you exchange there. Bring your passport when you exchange, pretty standard to be asked for it! TIP: If you withdraw money from an ATM, decline the offered exchange rate, this will also save you some money.
There is a tipping culture in Mexico; more like 10% is standard at restaurants, 15% if you loved your service. This includes things like airport shuttles so remember to bring smaller bills for that!
