"Hana" is the Hawaiian word for "Bay" and "uma" refers to the curves of the indigenous canoes. Hanauma Bay is a must do for your Oahu island itinerary. It is one of the premier destinations on Oahu if you want to get acquainted with hundreds of tropical fish and marine life. It offers an overall great experience whether you’re a beginner or an avid snorkeler and it's for people of all ages. The bay is closed to the public every Tuesday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day to allow the fish a day of feeding without interruption.

A reef break is an area in the ocean where waves start to break once they reach the shallows of a reef. Pipeline is notorious for huge waves which break in shallow water just above a sharp and cavernous reef, forming large, hollow, thick curls of water that surfers can tube ride. There are three reefs at Pipeline in progressively deeper water further out to sea that activate according to the increasing size of approaching ocean swells.
