We planned our wedding to line up with the Calgary Stampede, so out-of-town guests can experience “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.” The Stampede is the largest outdoor rodeo in the world, with all kinds of excitement—rides, delicious food, daily rodeo events, and a spectacular nightly grandstand show. It’s all conveniently located in downtown Calgary. During these ten days, the city comes alive: take in the Stampede, then wander down Stephen Avenue for a drink or some supper to see how Calgary celebrates its western roots every summer.
Banff is one of Canada’s most popular tourist destinations, known for its jaw-dropping mountain scenery, fun downtown, and endless things to explore. A park pass is required to enter Banff national park and ca be purchased when driving through the park gates. Hikes we recommend: Johnston Canyon Trail: This family-friendly trail features scenic boardwalks above the creek, several waterfalls, and the option to continue to the dramatic Upper Falls Sulphur Mountain: A popular climb from town, offering broad switchback trails to a mountaintop boardwalk and panoramic views over the Banff townsite and valley. It's a quieter and free alternative to the Banff Gondola.
Lake Louise is a stunning glacial lake located within Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, renowned for its vivid turquoise waters and breathtaking mountain scenery. Hikes we recommend around the lake: Lake Louise Lakeshore Trail: A very easy, family friendly flat 4 km (2.5 miles) walk along the lakeshore, perfect for all skill levels and offering close-up views of the lake and Chateau Lake Louise. Mirror Lake Trail: An easy to moderate 6 km (3.7 miles) out-and-back hike starting from the lakefront, leading to a small reflective lake called Mirror Lake surrounded by forest, suitable for families. Lake Agnes Teahouse: A popular moderate 7-7.4 km (4.3-4.6 miles) hike with an elevation gain of about 385-435 meters. It offers spectacular views, stops at Mirror Lake and a waterfall, ending at the historic Lake Agnes Teahouse on the shore of Lake Agnes.
