About a mile south of Linden Row. The Suspension Bridge gives you a beautiful view of the James River, and should you be feeling adventurous, it connects you to Belle Isle, a great place to hike, explore, picnic, and sit on the rocks by the water.
Less than a 10 min. drive, "Carytown is a colorful, bohemian district centered around a stretch of West Cary Street, with indie boutiques, record stores, and vintage emporiums. Quirky murals brighten alleyways and buildings housing cool cafes, bakeries, and health-conscious lunch spots, while evening crowds fill farm-to-table restaurants and craft cocktail bars. Operating since 1928, the Byrd Theater screens movies in opulent surroundings." Some of our favorites: - Ashby (clothing thrift store) - Bygones (vintage 1920s clothes and accessories) - Mongrel (lots of local Richmond swag, fun pop culture things) - One Eyed Jaques (boardgame/puzzle store) - Plan 9 Records (record store) - World of Mirth (toy store)
Our Science Museum is awesome. One of my favorite exhibits is "Speed." You can race against a variety of animals and people, see how fast you can throw a baseball, play air hockey with a robot, and watch yourself make ridiculous faces in slow motion :)
When we first moved back to Richmond we lived a few blocks from the VMFA. The Sculpture Garden is a great place to bring a book or have morning coffee and relax. The exhibits that come through have been incredible. Worth checking out! Opened in 1936, and considered among the largest art museums in North America for area of exhibition space, the VMFA's comprehensive art collection includes African art, American art, British sporting art, Fabergé, and Himalayan art.
Maymont is a 100-acre Victorian estate and public park. It contains Maymont Mansion, now a historic house museum, an arboretum, formal gardens, a carriage collection, native wildlife exhibits, a nature center, and Children's Farm. The Japanese Gardens and Italian Rose Gardens are beautiful.
One of Richmond's most well known brewery's, Hardywood has two locations. The original, being about 2.5 miles south of our home :) This taproom is in Richmond's Historic German Brewing District. They have an outdoor beer garden, Pizza Kitchen, and an eclectic mix of live music and community events that are free to the public and open to all ages. Other breweries in Richmond: - Bingo Beer Company - The Veil Brewing Company - Main Line Brewery - Tabol Brewing - Strangeways Brewing - Three Notch'd Brewing Company - Isley Brewing Company
Our favorite place of all, home sweet home.
