Skyler and Jessica both grew up in Lago Vista, and had mutual friends in high school. One day, a friend of Jessica’s, took her phone and added Skyler on social media. She had been crushing on him for months, but didn’t have the courage to add him herself. They spent some time talking over Snapchat before she asked their mutual friend if she would invite her and Skyler on a double date, with Skyler being Jessica’s date. He agreed… thankfully. He went over to Jessica’s house, introduced himself to her parents, and after she got the ok they went to their first date to the movie theater with their friends!
During Jessica’s floral design class her sophomore year, she got a message from Skyler asking if she’d meet him in the hallway. She asked to go to the restroom to sneak out into the hallway and find Skyler. They walked a few laps around the hall before he said “I like you, and I think you like me, will you be my girlfriend?” She had been waiting months patiently waiting for her crush to notice her, and finally, he was her boyfriend. They dated throughout high school, and were known as the couple who would last.
After graduating high school together, Jessica continued her education at Texas A&M and Skyler joined The United States Air Force. While he was away at basic training for a long 52 days, they communicated mostly through letters and the occasional phone call. They learned to navigate long distance as he was assigned to Biloxi Mississippi for his tech school. That’s when she went to visit him on her spring break.
She made the long drive from Texas to Biloxi Mississippi, but it was worth it to be with him. He was already planning the proposal when she told him she wanted to get up early one morning to go watch the sunrise. That gave him the perfect opportunity. So, they got up early, got ready, she got dressed in a white dress she packed ‘just in case’, and he wore a new outfit he’d just bought. They went down to the beach and walked alongside the foggy shoreline. There just so happened to be a photographer who was “looking to expand her portfolio”, and she asked if she could take a few pictures of the two. She told them to stand back to back, and on the count of three turn to face each other and say their favorite ice cream flavors. Well, when Jessica turned around, there was Skyler on one knee asking for her hand in marriage. It was the easiest yes!
