The first thing Sawyer ever said to Jess was, "What about universal jurisdiction? You know, Augusto Pinochet!" Now, under normal circumstances, talk of jurisdiction and dictators does not a romance make, but this was law school, a place where relationships were kindled in dim lighting, over tall stacks of casebooks and in hushed conversations about, you guessed it, jurisdiction and dictators. One Saturday night, Sawyer and Jess were among the few law students burning the midnight oil as end-of-semester deadlines approached. Sawyer, an avid coffee consumer strolled passed Jess for a third or fourth time with a fresh venti medium roast. Compelled by the smell of fresh coffee, Jess stopped Sawyer as he walked by and struck up a conversation. That night, no papers were written and no outlines were completed, but a romance, was indeed, made. Sawyer and Jess sat and talked all night in the Law Library and got breakfast just after sunrise the next morning. And here we are, in Brooklyn, New York, over four years later, still having conversations about the law and drinking venti medium roasts! We are so excited to spend our lives together and are thrilled that you have popped by to participate in the next chapter of our Law Library Love Story!
In 2021, Jess and Sawyer started a new tradition - on our birthdays, we take our Siberian Husky, Fenra hiking! So for Sawyer's birthday in August, we packed up our car and went off to the Catskills! Now, remember, this was a "new" tradition, meaning no one was in shape to hike up a mountain, except Fenra (the dog). So, of course, we chose the tallest peak in the mountain range to try for our first ever Catskills hike. It's called Slide Mountain. After many short breaks and lots of water and snacks, we made it to the top! We stopped to take in the view, and get Fenra some water. Suddenly Jess heard Sawyer say her name, she spun around, and he was down on one knee, taking a ring out of a box and simply said, "Will you marry me?" You're here, on our wedding website, so you can guess what happened next. Jess said, "Yes!" Sawyer put the ring on Jess's finger - sparkle, sparkle - and Jess, quickly gave it back to Sawyer so it could be kept safe in its box while they speedily made it down the mountain as the fog rolled in and rain started to fall.
