Raheem and I have known each other since middle school, we've shared classes, friends, and bus rides. He's lived near me most of our adolescences, we've talked here and there, but never have we made a connection outside of school. He moved away in high school during the summer. Coming back to school I hadn't realized he wasn't there. Senior year comes around and he moves back to Mexico. We've both grown, still having lived our own separate lives up until the point of graduation. We continue to live our lives as we see fit, and it is because of that we have made the choices that led us to where we are today. We re-connected over social media some years after high school. We would comment on the others' posts occasionally, sharing a like or a laugh. One fall evening approaching Halloween, we decided to go to a haunted house together. We had a great night, but shortly thereafter, fell off. A few months go by and we re-connect yet again when I realize the relationship he was just in after our last "date" had ended. We made conversation, and made plans to hangout. We went to the mall, saw a movie, grabbed a bite to eat, and talk. And oh boy, did we talk. Our childhoods, past relationships, regrets and 'I wish''s. We really got to know each other and started hanging out more and more. I had no idea what I was in for. One night, he kisses me. It was then I knew I was in for something I've never experienced before. I couldn't have been more right. He grew a relationship with my daughter, who loves him to death. We became the absolute best of friends. He's shown me I'm capable of things I would've previously never thought possible, and been there for me in times of dire need. He's became a husband in every sense of the word before ever asking me to marry him. I am so overjoyed to know that I will be sharing 'I do''s with the love of my life ❤️
