Luis had just started a new barista job at a Japanese cafe called Cafe Zaiya in Midtown. Jessica was the manager of the Cooper Square location and decided to host an informal Christmas party at the cafe for all employees......However, this did not include Luis. Despite them working together several times, Luis did not make enough of an impression on Jessica to invite him. Luis was not even aware a party was taking place, cluelessly planning to spend the night eating Roosevelt Ave tacos and watching Naruto. The night of the party, all of Luis' coworkers encouraged him to come anyway. Luis reluctantly decided to go and make it his mission to make this party crash worth his time. He first saw Jessica yelling across the room about how much she loves Moscato and was shocked that this was the same manager who was shy but sweet during work hours. He thought to himself that she looked really different (in a good way) outside of the ugly blue bandana they were forced to wear and that he will make sure she remembers him this time. Despite his best efforts and pulling out all the tricks he thought he knew, Jessica still had no interest other than remembering his name and feeling guilty for not inviting him. He knew she was going to be tough to get but worth every minute. They took the 7 train together and, feeling defeated, Luis still wanted to make sure Jessica got home safely. Without thinking of it as a move, he asked for her number and encouraged her to please text him when she got home. Surprised by the sincerity of his request, she finally had an impression of him: as someone sweet...and worth inviting out next time. From this moment, they texted almost every day and night and to this day they always make sure they get home safely....at least now home is together with each other.
