I was at a friend's birthday party getting food when this guy approached me and introduced himself as Larry. As we began to make small talk, I noticed that a guy I had gone on a few dates with had shown up to the party as well. I immediately started to laugh when I saw him which prompted Larry to ask what was funny. I replied, " oh, I just saw someone that I know." We rejoined the main area and sat down to continue our conversation. As we were talking, " the other guy" interrupts Larry and begins to try and sit between us. I saw the look on Larry's face so I quickly stood up to diffuse the situation and asked Larry to come with me. Trying to make light of the situation, I asked Larry, "why are you so upset about someone trying to talk to me ?, I'm not your girl!" He responded, " but you will be". Intrigued by his confidence, I said, "oh, really!?" After a few months of talking daily, seeing each other all the time and dodging tons of his attempts to kiss me, we made it official and the rest is history.
Larry texted me at work one Friday afternoon and said to come straight home and pack something nice. My first thought was, " how sweet, he's FINALLY listening to me ! I followed directions and didn't ask any questions. We got in the car and I didn't even ask where we were going. At the time I had just returned to working full-time, I was still working my PRN job, I was a doctoral student, and I had recently launched an online business. Stressed was an understatement so I didn't care where we were going! After a while, I realized we were heading into D.C. We do stay-cations from time to time so I didn't think anything of it. We arrived at the Watergate Hotel, it was beautiful! Coincidentally, as Larry was checking in, a pianist was playing John Legend's All of Me, it literally almost bought me to tears. We went up to the room and a huge fresh floral bouquet was sitting on he table. We overlooked the courtyard pools and had a direct view of the Georgetown waterfront. The water view from our room was simply amazing! After an equally amazing dinner we went up to the rooftop lounge. The hostess escorted us to our table and then moved to the side to reveal our picture, chocolate covered strawberries, and a bouquet of red roses. I was in complete shock! In that moment, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him as crowd of people watched. I said YES, and here we are planning the wedding of our dreams!
