Weeks prior I told Jessica we needed to have a date night and we made plans to go to downtown Ann Arbor. When the date finally came it started off like any other Monday. Jessica and I got up and headed to the gym. On the way out I said I would need to stop by my parents for something. We got ready for the evening and we stopped at my parent’s place where I had the ring hidden upstairs. I waited until Jessica was distracted and snuck upstairs. To my horror the box was too big to fit in my pants pocket. Suddenly I had an idea, I’d hide the ring in my pack of gum. Once downtown go to Connor O’Neill’s for a drink. Unbeknownst to Jessica, my photographer (Laura) had a mole inside watching us. We finished our drinks and I head to the restroom. I took the ring out of my gum box and placed it into my back pocket. We did some window shopping and the entire time I had to keep moving around to avoid Jessica putting her hand in my back pocket. We start walking towards Palio’s where we had our first date, and Laura said she was close by. As we got closer to the designated spot, time starts to slow down and my legs were feeling heavy. Jessica noticed that the restaurant we were having dinner at was across the street and asked to go early because she was cold. I begged Jessica to just keep walking and she reluctantly agreed. In front of Palio’s I am scared out of my mind. I tell Jessica I love her, or at least I think I did...I think I blacked out. I took the ring out of my back pocket and got down on one knee and said, “Will you marry me?” Instead of the typical answer one would expect, she says, “Are you serious?” I continued to stare at her waiting for an answer and she says, “You’re an asshole!” Suddenly she hugs me and says, “Yes, of course I will.” According to her she thought I was joking. While embracing, I told her to turn around. Standing behind us was Laura, who captured the entire thing for us to remember forever.
