How We Met

It all started with a sweatshirt

Jon and Jess met like many couples- in a bar. Well, a pizzeria that had a bar. Their meet cute happened on the historic Main Street in Garden Grove on a cold evening in December when Jon happened to walk into the right place at the right time. Jessica was selling sweatshirts for the student body and was stuck next to the drunk PTA moms. She was regretting volunteering to sell sweatshirts and wished she had not been the one to sign up. Just as she was sitting in her mire, someone she had never seen before walked in. Jon was taking photos for yearbook and decided to go to the pizzeria where everyone from the parade was coming to celebrate. Jon walked in and walked right up to Jessica. Jessica was so excited to see another student so she could try to get rid of all these sweatshirts she had to sell. Unfortunately Jon did not need a sweatshirt since he had a letterman's jacket. Much to Jessica's chagrin she could not sell this sweatshirt and then Jon had to leave to take more photos. Jessica did not see him the rest of the night. Jon and Jessica had never met even though they went to the same schools and only lived less than a mile a part. In fact after their initial meeting Jon and Jess never ran into each other again. Two months passed and then one day in February, Jessica got a message on Facebook. A message from a Jon Mason asking "if she was that girl who tried to sell him a sweatshirt?" Jessica laughed and said "I am! In fact we still have sweatshirts, would you like to buy one?". Jon still did not need a sweatshirt and never ended up buying one. But, he and Jessica had started talking that day and never stopped.

The Proposal

02.24.21

So you wanna know how I asked the girl I met 12 years ago, to spend the rest of her life with me and marry me? Well it started with this elaborate plan to take her to Disneyland. It has been her favorite place since I got her a pass during our first Christmas in 2011. We went to see the Wanda Vision Exhibit and walk around. Then we had soul food at the Jazz Kitchen. Of course we got full and then had to take a nap. Little did she know this elaborate plan was to kill time so I could have a photographer meet me on Main Street in Garden Grove. Main Street in Garden Grove is where we first met. Hopefully you read her story first, it’s guaranteed to be lot more put together than this one. Anyways long story short, I took her to Main Street and we walked down the street, after I showed her a highlight reel of our past 10 years together in a video I made. We got to the Gem Theater where I had put up in bright shining lights, a message that read “ Jessica Will You Marry Me?”. Before I could even get down on my knee and ask, she shouted “Yes!”.
