Once Upon a time...

The renaissance festival was a place I always loved. I'd been through a rough breakup a few months back when Ana, a friend of mine suggested we go together in the fall of 2023 I was super excited. It had been awhile since I'd seen them, ever since we quit working together basically and boy did I need to get out. I was even more excited when she said an old coworker of mine -Hunter- that I'd been trying to hang out with for forever would be there and we could meet up with him and his friends; I remembered him telling me how he thought we'd get along and they always seemed like they'd be fun to hang out with from everything he'd told me about them (he was right). It sounded exactly like the kind of thing I needed. I'd been working all the time, lonely, I needed a good day out just to have some fun. So I got ready, met up with Ana and on our way we went. Now, if you know Hunter and I, we're both short so it doesn't make us the easiest to find in a crowd, and the renaissance festival is already a nightmare to find anyone in. It took us a little while but then, right outside of the joust, I finally saw him, and it felt like finally drawing in a full breath for the first time in ages. He was different, I was different, and I was head over, well not heels, uh, doc martens. I'll never forget that afternoon, the way he smiled when he first saw me, the way I couldn't shut up about him on the way home because he was all I could think about (I'm so sorry Ana lol). I still give him hell over the margarita he spilled on my boots to this day, but I could never bring myself to clean it off. But he looked at me like the kiss of the first spring breeze on your face and I was starving for warmth, and now I'll never be cold again. ♡ Jess
