Two and a half years ago we came to a singles weekend run through DineNMeet called Back to Camp with an openness to meet someone, arriving with both the high hopes and the sobering challenges of frustrating experience. Jessica was running the improv workshop and Ahron participated. Ahron was very impressed with Jessica's acting chops and her ability to hold the attention of a big audience. The next day, Dine and Meet participants were encouraged to be brave and talk to someone they might be interested in. Ahron did. When we first met, there was a special connection; but as is often the case, we were meant to date other people from that weekend. About a month later, Ahron came to one of Jessica's shows, but just as a friend. Fast forward about a year and 2 months later, we reconnected on Simchas Torah on the Upper West Side. Jessica found herself lost on the street when she bumped into Ahron and his parents who were visiting for Chag. They encouraged her to join them at MJE. She walked with them and spent more time talking to Ahron. After some mimosas and dancing, Ahron's dad came over to Jessica to deliver the message "I think Ahron likes you." Jessica responded "If that's the case, then he should do something about it!" Ahron in seeing all this from a distance, pressed his Dad about what he had said but his Dad claimed he couldn't really hear. So Ahron went over to Jessica, and asked "What did my Dad say to you?". Caught slightly off guard, Jessica responded "Well....he said he thinks you like me and I said if that's the case then you should do something about it!" to which he responded "We will have to talk about it on our date!"
After months of dating, traveling, dressing up in costumes, learning about each other, and growing together, Jessica and Ahron decided it was finally time to take the next step. The week leading up to Jessica's birthday was declared "Jessica's Birthday Week" with fun, romantic, activities planned for every single day! On Sunday, Ahron took Jessica to a special pre-opening of the Harry Potter Exhibit at the NY Historical Society. Jessica thought for sure Ahron was proposing then. While there was a lot of magic, there was no ring. That afternoon they went to the Botanical gardens where under the gazeebo in the rose garden, Ahron went down on one knee...to tie his shoe. The next day they went sailing. On the boat, Ahron kept falling and landed on one knee again. Only to get right back up again. On Tuesday, Jessica was told to meet Ahron at Stand Up NY (the first place Jessica ever did comedy) at 7:00. Ahron called to tell Jessica he was running late. She thought he couldn't possibly be running late to his own proposal! When she showed up at the club, she was checked in for the suspicious "7:15" show. She walked into the empty theater where Ahron was on the stage with a top hat & tails, and a bouquet of red roses. The audience was lined with all the stuffed animals Ahron had given to her throughout the year. We sat down on the stage and Ahron put on the various different costumes we had previously dressed up in. He spoke about what each one meant and what we learned about each other in those moments. Ahron then took out a screenplay that he had written called "Not particularly Soon By You". The script called for Ahron and Jessica to change into sloth costumes. Ahron then got down on one knee in slow motion. When he opened up the box, there was no ring inside! He then got out a small baby unicorn stuffed animal, and the ring was on the horn of the unicorn! Ahron proposed and Jess said yes!
