Mackenzi and Jesse met at a party in October 2023 hosted by a mutual friend, the legendary Luke Harmon. They both noticed each other, and were curious, but too shy to engage directly. They'll both jokingly tell you, "we don't talk to cute strangers," so perhaps nothing would have come from it without the help of their friends. Months passed, and over that time Luke and another mutual friend, Naomi, conspired to bring them together through many encouragements and promptings and at least one set-up. By Memorial Day 2024, the stage was set. Luke knew Mackenzi would be at a party that day, so he told Jesse to go there to ask her out. Jesse was very nervous, so Luke told him exactly what to say. Jesse stuck to the script, and they had their first date a couple weeks later. Due to their busy summer schedules, their next two dates were each a month apart. Out of the ordinary for sure, but it was exactly what God intended, and they needed.
