It was love at first swipe! In March 2014, Ali and Jesse both swiped right, and on April 1st, they went on their first date at Buffalo Billiards. After a round of pool and a pitcher of beer that was left unfinished (due to Jesse cutting Ali off), they then went to a place called Public late in the evening and then after a few hours on their first date said their goodbyes. Ali was planning to move to Austin, TX after she finished graduate school, and Jesse was planning to move to Arlington, VA. After two months of dates that brought each of them out of their comfort zones (Jesse “hiking” in nature in Great Falls, Ali attempting to cook chicken - which, undercooked, was not the way to Jesse’s stomach, and both attending each others' graduations thus meeting the families), Ali came to a realization. She knew that there was something special and wanted to keep exploring the relationship. Ali and Jesse both looked for jobs in Arlington, VA. After two years of working and living in the Delaware/Maryland/Virginia (DMV) area, Ali and Jesse decided it was time to be closer to family. They moved in together in Chelsea, and they haven't turned back. Three years after moving in together (after Jesse completed graduate school at NYU), Jesse proposed in Bermuda! (to help all of you, the math works out to 5 years total).

Ali and Jesse have a standing competition; each year, they compete in March Madness brackets. Jesse chooses teams based on statistics and facts, while Ali chooses teams based on recognition of the schools' names. Whoever wins the March Madness bracket plans a weekend trip. The first year, Jesse won. He decided to visit Austin, TX, to see why his girlfriend decided to move to Arlington over moving to Austin (he now admits he saw the appeal!). In 2019, Ali won. Jesse claimed it was his turn again to choose the weekend trip, as he had chosen Ali's top choice in the previous competition. One caveat was that Ali would not know where the trip would be until the day of. She was only aware that she should pack for the beach. On June 27th, they embarked on the trip. Jesse had asked Ali to get her hair done (for a beach vacation?!), and Ali had a pretty good idea of what was to come. While at the beach in Bermuda, Ali complained about the humidity. Jesse repeated, "Just enjoy the moment." That night, Jesse had planned dinner at a restaurant on the beach, called the Ocean Club. The shuttles, which typically ran in clusters (5 at once then none for 15 minutes), were not cooperating. Jesse, surprisingly calm, decided they should take a taxi with another family also going to the restaurant. As soon as they sat down at the restaurant and were asked about water preference, Jesse asked Ali for her hands. Instantly, Ali began to cry. Jesse spoke about his love for Ali, and he got down on one knee. Ali, thinking Jesse was taking too long, grabbed the ring out of the box and put it on her own finger! Jesse hired a photographer, who had hidden inside of the restaurant. He had taken pictures of the moment and took subsequent pictures of Ali and Jesse on the beach next to the restaurant! Austin is a great place to visit, Arlington was a great place to meet and get to know each other, and now Ali and Jesse look forward to being together forever with their friends and family in NY!
