At age 29 the dating pool was pretty dried up. It was like going to the dump and trying to find the least disgusting thing to bring home. Kyle and I met online. After many awfull first dates I went on my last first date. I assumed this date would be like the rest... a waste of time, so I made plans with my friends so I could bail an hour into it. Within the first five minutes I knew he was different, that this was different. We were so loud and obnoxious people literally moved away from us. A hour in my friends were texting me asking where I was. I told kyle " listen I thought you would be lame so I made plans to bail and play trivia with my friends do you just want to come with?" He said yes so I brought him with. We ended up talking till 4 a.m. by the third date I knew he was it and that I was all in and he knew as well.
Our proposal story isn't a magical fairytale or like the movies but it's mine and I love it. Kyle has fake proposed to me many times. My 30th birthday (which I was not happy about turning 30) we have a hotel and I was crying. He asked if I would like my birthday gift, I nodded and he dropped to one knee. Then he reached in his coat pocket and said "just kidding," and pointed and laughed in my face. New year's eve same thing. Sunset on the beach in mexico once again he fake proposed. In Jamaica underneath a clear perfect night sky once again fakes it. At my friend's daughter's wedding that I worked in front of my friends again he does it. A total of 6 times he pulled this. Kyle is many things but a romantic is not one of them. He tried to hide that he had bought me a ring but listened to his voicemail next to me from my uncle's jewelry store. He told me they were soliciting.... they were not. So for 2 months I woke up every day hoping that day was the day. Anxiety started to get to me and a million things went through my head to why he hadn't done it. So one day he calls me after work saying his friend is coming over. I didn't even bother getting out of my pajamas... today was not the day. He gets home from work and has a huge bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne. I was trying not to get my Hope's up I'd been fooled before. He finally looks at me and says "babe this is happening," then drops to one knee and I start sobbing. Ring box in his hand he says " Jess marie Zagaros will you marry me." All I can get out is "you better not me skrewing with me, I'll be so mad at you it's not funny anymore. " He puts our puppy in my lap and I'm sobbing petting her. He tells me to look at the dog and my ring was around her collar. He was going to open the empty ring box for one last joke but thankfully didn't. There was no flash mob, there was no hidden photographer and there was no Hollywood magic but there was a man that stayed true to himself to give me our perfect proposal and I wouldn't change it at all.
