After long stints of being single for us both, we coincidentally joined a dating app within the same week. Jess swiped right, but Katey - being completely out of touch with hip, young lingo, unlike Jess - misunderstood a TikTok joke and swiped left! For days after, she felt the pang of regret bubble up in the pit of her stomach, even mentioning the moment to a few friends until one recognized the joke and cleared up the misunderstanding. Unfortunately, the opportunity had passed, and love was gone forever. Or so she thought. Despite the odds, Jess came up one more time and Katey CAREFULLY swiped right. We knew from the first message (a comment on Katey's music taste) that there was something special between us. From the moment we "met," we talked constantly. Texting all day, talking on the phone until the wee hours, and then falling asleep to the sound of each other's allergies. At the time, Katey lived in Fayetteville and Jess was in Bentonville, but attending school in Fayetteville. So maaaaybe school became a good excuse to start spending time in Fayetteville. A couple of months into the relationship, Jess and Katey went away for the weekend to Eureka Springs, where Jess stole Katey's thunder and said 'I love you' just hours before Katey had meticulously planned to at a gorgeous cliff overlooking a stunning river and massive forest. In return, she was firm that she would be the one to propose. Propose she did, in an iconic way. Early in February 2025, Katey instructed Jess to take a day off work for a special date. Looking back, Jess should've known, but she chalked it up to an early Valentine's Day. Jess woke up on February 3rd to a note in an envelope with a 1 on the front. Katey, giddy and barely containing it, said to follow the clues. "The clues" led us around town to the spots that mean the most to us, like our favorite date-night restaurant... and the place where I almost burned down our apartment...and we ended up at the park where we had our first date. She'd enlisted the help of the great and powerful Hannah to set up a picnic resembling the one we had almost 2 years before, with the addition of some sparkling juice and plastic glasses to celebrate. It didn't take much discussion to decide to elope and simply enjoy a vacation together. Still, our parents would have killed us if we didn't take witnesses! Luckily, we both have pesky little sisters perfect for the job. Katey and I are excited to enjoy New Orleans and the honeymoon cruise! But we're even more excited to see what our future looks like as a family. Our two families will officially be joined, and it would be our honor to celebrate that with y'all...when it warms up again. Until then, wish us bon voyage and keep us in your hearts and prayers. We love you all so much, Katey and Jess
