At a CrossFit in Brooklyn is where it all started. Yes, in real life, and not on a dating app. Does this make our love better than your love? Absolutely. I (Jordan) was warming up for the class when in she (Jess) walked. As soon as I saw her, I knew I wanted to ask her out. Used to "beating" most of my fellow members in workouts, I figured that my best chance to impress her would be with my athleticism. The coach told us the workout: burpees and squats. Oh, I'm going to crush this! He counted down, "3. 2. 1. Go!" That girl smoked me. Like absolutely demolished me in the workout. I can't stress how much better she did than I did. I started making excuses in my head. "Well, she is a lot shorter than I am, so like, she doesn't have as far to go on the burpees. Same for the squats. Plus the squats were based off bodyweight and not absolute so she's squatting like nothing compared to what I was doing..." Needless to say, I did not get her number... I didn't see her at the gym for a week or two, until one day I showed up and saw her warming up on the side. "Hey, do you want to do the [in-house gym competition] Open with me? If you time and count for me, I'll do the same for you," she asked. I was elated. "That sounds great!" We each did the open (in case you were wondering, Jess did better...), and I asked, "Hey, would you want to meet up and workout some time?" Okay, so I didn't ask her out, but, like baby steps. After weeks of being workout partners, I finally asked her out. Begrudgingly, she said "okay" (Jess' note: I booked a hair appointment an hour after the date as an escape plan 1). On the way to our first date, Jess turned to me and said, "I usually go out with way hotter guys." (escape plan 2) Way? Like who is she dating, Mario Lopez? Most people would take this personally, but I thought it was the funniest thing ever. Long story short (and running out of words), I crushed the date and we've been together ever since.
