Modern Love in the Digital Age

Easily passable as the headline of a column from some business journal, lauding a fresh Fortune 500 marketing campaign. Maybe surprisingly, this is where our love story begins. It wasn't the accidental touching of hands igniting the attraction of two unsuspecting lovers reaching for the last box of Raisin Bran at the local grocer. No, it was the flash of a dating profile, followed by a rose (and a prayer) that kicked off our love's odyssey. Like a good Hallmark rom com, our relationship started slowly. Two strangers learning each other's intricacies, guarded at first, and equipped with well earned skepticism from a growing collection of failed first dates and relationships. For Jess, any suitor was required to gain the trust of her prized dog Marcus before even beginning to harbor hopes for the future. Easier said than done, considering Marcus appreciates the company of strangers about as much as most people enjoy going to the dentist. For Jason, it was essential to have a good sense of humor, willingness to feign interest in his lengthy expositions on whatever currently has his interest, and a proven ability to sleep through heavy snoring. All perfectly reasonable, understandable prerequisites I'm sure we all share in choosing a life partner. But we got by. We progressed from counting dates, to months passing by, and had a lot of fun along the way. Jess brought her spirit for adventure to the relationship, and we've enjoyed getting to see little pockets of the world together over the last few years. From taking in a West Ham match at London Stadium, to appreciating the awe inspiring beauty of the azulejos of Portugal, to retching last night's Mexico City street tacos in the airplane lavatory. We've truly experienced some of the beauty the world has to offer. Jess tells me that planning a wedding can be stressful and time consuming, but I've enjoyed reflecting on our little love story and the memories we've created together. Relationships can be hard but it's always encouraging thinking of how much we've grown together, how we challenge each other, and provide support when things get tough. Living in the digital age means having the ability to query for profound, obscure wisdom from the wide depths of human history. There is an African proverb that asserts "if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together." We are excited to start our journey together and to formally profess our commitment to each other with all of our family and friends in attendance as witnesses. Thank you to all for your help and support over the years, and we so look forward to celebrating together in October 2025.

For all the days along the way
