Chris was on a road trip that had no destination. Jess was living in Boone recruiting people to do a silly summer job. They both found their home on April 1st when Chris arrived at a mutual friend's house in Knoxville for a weekend party. Chris asked Jess to help him build a fire in the front yard and they have been building fires ever since.

It was a classic double gotcha. Chris got everyone together to celebrate the engagement of our friends Christian and Danielle but Chris secretly had an agenda to pop the question to Jess exactly 5 years after they met. He walked her down to a bridge that goes across a lake in the Georgia Mountains. He had Christian and Joe playing "You Make Loving Fun" playing in the background and candles that wouldn't stay lit. After dropping to a knee, Jess wondered why Danielle was hiding behind a tree with a camera. After a few moments of shock, she gave Chris the best gift in the world.
