For the health and safety of our loved ones, we have made the difficult decision to scale down our wedding reception. We are saddened that we will not be able to have the reception we initially intended, and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We were married in the church on August 1, 2020 and postponed our reception to April 11, 2021. We cannot wait to see you once this is all behind us and we pray for you and your families during this time. Thank you for all of your love and support. Love, Jess and Carl
.... kidding!! Before they each started their respective residencies, Carl and Jess were required to take an advanced cardiovascular life support class during orientation. Carl had been living in New York City for four years and Jess had just moved from Philadelphia. As Jess walked in eagerly with an oversized backpack and a notebook in hand, Carl walked in begrudgingly with his sweats on and undoubtedly *without* a notebook in sight. After the morning session, they were paired into a group of two...and so the story begins. While they took turns performing chest compressions, they couldn't help but constantly burst out into laughter, make inside jokes and tease each other until the instructor called it a day and gave them passing grades (do not trust us with your lives—just your teeth). Carl walked Jess to Penn Station every day that week, and sat next to her during every orientation session. Though they tried to act coy about catching feelings so soon after starting this new and rigorous stage in their careers, they fell in love so deeply and suddenly it was hard to ignore the obvious truth. Later on in their relationship, they both shared secrets with each other about specific moments and decisions in their lives that occurred, which eventually led to them meeting that June afternoon. They would often find themselves taking in how wonderful it felt to believe that everything happened for a reason and that they were destined to meet. A year and four months after they started dating, Carl sealed the deal by asking Jess to marry him in front of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center during the holidays. If you ask them both, they're just excited about spending the rest of their lives together eating good food, exploring faraway places, and raising baby Dots.
