How did you two meet? We were introduced by Jerome’s daughter Ashanti, who was Cheryl’s hairdresser. She thought her Dad would be interested in talking to Cheryl because of her story. Cheryl was featured on a Juneteenth program where she told the story of how her great-great grandfather homesteaded land in central Florida in the 1890’s. So she invited Cheryl to the Juneteenth celebration they hosted for the community in 2023. When did you start dating? March 2025.Our first date was unconventional in that we both arrived with other people. So, it was the four of us on a boat tour on the Homosassa River. The second date was smoother. We went to a Caribbean Night Dance. The next date was the following day to see the movie “Sinners.” By the fourth date to a jazz concert, we were an item. In July, Jerome was being introduced to Cheryl’s family at her birthday party in Washington DC. Later that month Cheryl accompanied Jerome to his family reunion in New York. They both lived in Harlem in the 70’s and 80’s, so they did a “roots tour” showing each other the places where they had lived in their youth. Proposal story? Cheryl: What’s the rush? Jerome: I’m 78 years old! Anything special you want guests to know about your journey? From our first date, we have continued to enjoy boat rides and cruises, including a nature tour along the Gulf, a glass bottom boat in Silver Springs, a cruise to the Bahamas, and most recently, watching dolphins hunt fish at night. We especially enjoy our date-night ballroom dancing classes, which is why the Wedding Celebration theme is “Shall we Dance?”
