A Waffle House love story

It was a mid-June day at Waffle House, when Mackenzie hears the door open. In he swoops, like he’s in a rush but he’s not gonna leave until he’s finished with whatever he was doing. Tall, and dressed like he just got done at the office, he was handsome. They already knew each other’s names, they had been texting back and forth but today was the day he actually walked in. Mackenzie turned around from whatever task she was finishing and froze. She didn’t expect he would actually come in. She watched as he walked from the door way to the bar and sit down like he was just another customer. She knew what he was doing, she saw the little smirk on his face as he sat down and didn’t say a single word. As Mackenzie walked over towards him, grabbing a menu and silverware, she herself couldn’t stop smiling. His unbothered expression as if the world moved around him was alluring. “Hi” she said as she placed the silverware on the countertop. “Whatcha eating?” “An all-star with bacon, scrambled eggs with cheese, hash browns, raisin toast, a plain waffle and a chocolate milk.” “Coming right up” she smiled. She hands him his food, the waffle was a little burnt, the eggs were overcooked, and his bacon was undercooked. Only then did Mackenzie realize the side work she hadn’t finished was emptying out the tea urns and as she turned around it emptied its self all over the counter. In a frantic attempt to not look like shes brand new at all of this she grabbed towels and started to clean up. Only he was watching her, laughing at her mistakes, in an endearing way. But by the time she finished cleaning up he was already finished eating. He hands her money and walks out. She grabbed the trash using it as an excuse to follow him. She rushes out the back door hoping he didn’t leave and he’s there waiting in his car. She doesn’t know what to say so she just walks past and as she’s coming back he yells “Why didn’t you tell me you had a fat ass?” “I didn’t think it was important” “Yeah, that’s kinda important to me” he says as he laughs. Mackenzie was speechless most people don’t come out and say what they feel and it was bizarre someone could do that. Over the next few weeks he visited her at work. And would come pick her up some days to hang out afterwards. Eventually they didn’t go a single day without seeing each other. She brought him home to meet her family on her birthday. And that’s when Jericho told Mackenzie “I love you”. And from that day forward Mackenzie was all in. She knew that he meant it. He wouldn’t say anything if he didn’t. He was honest sometimes brutally honest if he had to be but Jericho was not a liar. She realized that he was everything to her. No matter what happens, she would follow him wherever he went. She would move mountains if he asked, and drain the seas if he was thirsty. Jericho is the great love story she was looking for. And he felt same for her.
