How we met

Love at first tweet

Danielle was a reporter on the news, and Jeremy was an avid viewer. He admits she was his news crush, and any time he heard her voice over the air, he would drop what he was doing and walk into the living room so he could watch Danielle's reports. It was a cold winter day in 2012 when Jeremy decided to introduce himself online, sending her a tweet while she reported in a snow storm, complimenting her winter hat. "@DanielleWaugh gets the award for best winter hat for a field reporter. This is kind of a big deal Danielle. Nice work." Danielle could tell by Jeremy's witty tweets that he was someone she'd get along with. She remembers looking at his profile picture and wondering why a single girl like herself couldn't meet cute and funny guys like that in Maine. For several months, they followed each other on Twitter and she noted how he always made her smile. Eventually, tweets turned to messages and Danielle decided to ask Jeremy out for drinks. They finally met at the Little Tap House in Portland on January 17, 2014. That first date lasted for several hours, and they found they got along even better in person. They can still remember the exact table they were sitting at when they met -- a day that would change the rest of their lives!

The Proposal

Dec. 15, 2018

For Danielle's 30th birthday weekend, Jeremy planned a surprise trip to her hometown of Pittsburgh. Danielle didn't know where they were going until they printed out their boarding passes at Boston Logan Airport. When she read "PIT," she was excited because she assumed Jeremy got them tickets to see her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers play his New England Patriots at Heinz Field! When they got to Pittsburgh and went out to lunch, Danielle was shocked to walk to the back of a restaurant and find her parents, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, along with Jeremy's parents and brother! Jeremy arranged for their families to drive and fly in so they could celebrate together. That night, the group was gathered together opening cards and having cake. Jeremy had another surprise: he got out a guitar and started playing the song "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters. Danielle instantly got tears in her eyes: this was the song Jeremy told her reminded him of their relationship during their first months together. At the end of the song, Jeremy got down on one knee and asked Danielle to marry him. The next day they did end up going to the football game. The Steelers won :)
