We invite you to join us in celebrating the Pittsburgh wedding cookie table tradition! The Cookie Table Tradition is said to originate in Southwestern Pennsylvania by Eastern European, Italian and Greek immigrants. While no one is really sure when the cookie table tradition began, the consensus it that immigrants started it out of necessity. Elaborate wedding cakes were expensive and cookies could be made for the wedding by loved ones at a relatively low cost that was spread out among many people. By bringing old-world cookies to weddings, the tradition was also a way for immigrants to honor their heritage in their new country. Today tradition still trumps convenience, as wedding cookies are mostly homemade by family and friends. We invite you to bring a few dozen of your family's traditional cookies or your favorite cookies... and exchange some to take home with you!
