About our Wedding

Friday, May 6th through Sunday, May 8th, 2022

Jeremy and I (Aniza writing with Jeremy laying on the couch next to me laughing and sleeping at his phone, TYPICAL! lol) planned a whole weekend full of activities catered to our close family and friends to participate in while up in a small, homey, mountain town called Idyllwild, CA; where nothing was too far away! We started the party on Friday, May 6th with our guest arriving and settling into their rooms and town for the weekend before our wedding rehearsal and dinner. During the rehearsal dinner we shared drinks, lots of "I am the other Lai brother" jokes, tears, and of course encouragement over traditional Chinese Dim Sum and Guatemalan Chuchitos. Saturday morning we started off with our Chinese "Christian Rendition" Tea Ceremony led by Maggy Wong. The Ceremony consisted of us honoring and vowing to our parents, elders, family and siblings in front of our wedding party and close friends... except someone overslept and missed it. Haha Obviously we started our wedding late, because no wedding ever starts on time, right? Jeffrey Burnell officiated our marriage in front of 50 people (not including our livestream homies) and led us all through communion together as one body before christ; it was PRETTY sick and special! After he finally did the whole "You may kiss the bride!" he introduced us as the newly married "Mr. and Mrs. Lai", we went over to the Lodge and celebrated over Idyllwild's original wood fired pizza and drinks. Our most special people shared toasts: David Lai, Jade, and Jesse from his home (with Covid). We danced our First Dance to Stacy Park's cover of something I'll never remember (that is NOT the name of the song) which opened the floor to moshing, latin grooves, hip hop lessons from Ben Chung, air guitaring Alex, and so much more. We ended the night with a special performance from Brett covering Soco Amaretto Lime and his dreamy high school hit, in which Kris completely ripped his shirt right off his own body! The crowd paraded us out with cheers, chants, banging on the car, chasing the car, then waving to the car while a not-so-strange stranger yelled, "I hope it works out!" (For those of you who know about 11pm on the itinerary, nothing happened at 11pm. LOL) Sunday morning we brunched with our guests, hung for one last time, and wished them safe journeys on their way back down the mountain and home. Jeremy and I hosted some friends to hot tubing and card reading (like wedding cards, not tarot cards!) back at our place before our after party at the Rustic Theatre where we watched DOCTOR STRANGE, which was a special gift from the owners to Jeremy. Ken ate 2 burgers, Ben drank who knows how many Tequila shots, the boys drank crazy slurpees and Britt, Jade, and myself added our own crazy commentary to the movie. Fun Fact: The Lodge, where we hosted our reception was the original Rustic Theatre before they relocated to its current location. Monday morning we had breakfast one last time with our parents before making it down the mountain to the real world, where we met with the County Clerk for our License and had Lexi and Jesse as our witnesses. That was the Lai Weekend Wedding in 3134 characters.
