Our Love Story

We wish we could say it was love at first sight. It was not. It all started with a poem. Now, that might sound cliché, but walk with us. For four years, we existed more in each other’s orbit than in each other’s lives, never really knowing much beyond a familiar face at congregation meetings. A Local Design and Construction (LDC) project changed that. Someplace between hard hats, long days of painting, and conversations that lasted a little longer than usual, curiosity entered the picture. And somewhere in the middle of all that, we discovered we were both writers. Without really meaning to, we started sharing pieces of ourselves. Quiet thoughts we normally kept tucked away. One poem turned into another, and soon we found ourselves writing about each other. In hindsight, that probably should have told us everything we needed to know. Our poems were eerily similar. Same emotions. Same thoughts hidden between the lines. And somewhere between reading and rereading those words, we saw ourselves through someone else’s eyes, and that changed something neither of us knew how to explain at the time. It was refreshing to have someone who understood. At the same time, it was confusing, slightly terrifying, and honestly strange enough that we found ourselves asking trusted friends for advice because… what exactly were we supposed to do with all of that? The funny part is, neither of us was looking for a relationship. We both had specific spiritual goals and were very determined to stay focused and not become distracted. Well. As you can see, that worked out quite… interestingly. Somewhere between deep conversations, friendship, prayer, and trying very hard not to fall in love, we did anyway. And somehow, love did not distract us from the lives we hoped to build. It simply gave us someone to build them with. And now here we are. A Ghanaian girl and an American boy, figuring out faith, life, love, family, culture, and how two people from completely different backgrounds somehow ended up writing the same story. Honestly, we still think it’s a little crazy. But more than anything, we are grateful for our love, for the way Jehovah brought our paths together, and for the beautiful union that is to come.
