When Jenny and Mike first met, they were merely co-workers. There was no attraction, no personal interest, and certainly no romantic interest. Jenny was a bubbly, energetic, and friendly presence in the workplace. Mike, on the other hand, was perfectionistic, stern, and demanding. But in the same way that you can't judge a book by its cover, so also is there more to a person than what is seen on the outside. As Jenny and Mike got to know one another over time, a friendship began to bloom. Mike discovered that Jenny was intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate, and had wisdom beyond her years. Jenny discovered that Mike was funny, generous, kind, and young at heart. Before there were any thoughts of dating or romance, there was first a friendship built on communication and trust. Only much later did they learn that there was something on the inside that attracted them to one another. But this didn't happen quickly. At one point, Mike thought Jenny might be sending signals that she liked him. (Oh, how wrong he was!) One day, he placed a yellow rose on Jenny's car. She told him that something like that could be taken as a romantic gesture. He replied that it WAS meant as a romantic gesture. This surprised Jenny and she told him she saw him only as a friend. Embarrassed, he quickly realized that he had been friend zoned and he apologized and didn't pursue the matter further. Nevertheless, there was something about that flower; that yellow rose. Their friendship deepened after that day and eventually they decided to go on a date. Yes, an actual "date!" It's hard to say when dating became love but after a while, Jenny felt it was time to make the relationship "official." While talking with Mike on the phone, Jenny asked him to be her boyfriend. After some philosophical musing, Mike agreed. The rest, as they say, is history. To this day, Jenny and Mike feel their friendship is the most remarkable part of their relationship and each considers the other his/her best friend.
