Our Story

We met the way every couple in their early twenties dreams of – through online dating apps. We both swiped right in September of 2019, just before Kyle’s birthday. Jenny’s Tinder bio ended with the prompt, “Hit me with your best fun fact!” and Kyle answered, “German chocolate cake is named after Samuel German, not the country.” Jenny was smitten. The rest of the conversation moved shyly between our favorite Food Network TV shows and a mutual love of Studio Ghibli movies, and an in-person date was quickly set. The following weekend, Kyle drove to Jenny’s apartment with a mountain of cooking supplies (thrifted Kitchen-aid stand mixer and all) to whip up a homemade cheesecake. Jenny still has their receipt from the quick trip to HyVee for cream cheese and graham cracker crumbs. Our internet meet-cute occurred in Iowa City during Jenny’s junior year at the University of Iowa and Kyle’s third-to-last semester at Coe College. We discovered that we both wanted to move to Boston post-graduation, which still feels like fate. Kyle had previously attended Boston University, and Jenny’s older sister Megan was finishing her Ph.D at the same school. We both knew we were ready for an East Coast adventure, and all we had to do was make it through a pandemic, two graduations, and a cross-country move. Somehow, our relationship only got stronger with each challenge. The pandemic allowed us to spend more time with each other’s immediate families, which was a beautiful silver lining. We went on family walks with the Bowmans and played countless rounds of Catan and Coup with the Dionelas (Kyle’s sister Katrina usually won, which is difficult for Jenny to admit). Each of our families has been incredibly supportive of us and has helped us grow into our lovely little life together. Two years after our move to Boston and one year after our move in together, Kyle proposed at our favorite vacation spot of Acadia National Park in Maine. It was shortly after sunrise at the top of Cadillac Mountain, overlooking the gorgeous harbor islands in the Atlantic. Jenny’s sister Megan and brother-in-law Evan were in attendance, as were a handful of other tourists who applauded when Jenny said yes. We now live in a homey and eclectic apartment in Cambridge with our adorable little pup, Dolly, and Jenny’s bearded dragon, Lumi. If asked, Kyle agrees that he is Lumi’s adoptive parent as well. We love to cook together, go antiquing on the weekends, and birdwatch at local ponds. Kyle works as a tax administrator and makes sure Jenny never has to prepare her own taxes, and Jenny works as an ophthalmic technician and makes sure Kyle wears his glasses while driving. We still enjoy watching Studio Ghibli movies and Food Network TV shows, and Kyle still bakes Jenny the occasional cheesecake. We are so excited for our upcoming wedding, and we are so thankful for all of you who have supported us over the last five years. We know that there are so many exciting adventures in front of us, and we are looking forward to kicking off our marriage with a celebration with all our family and friends!
