In downtown Cafayate you will find local crafts and shopping. There is a charming marketplace located within the town square that showcases a wide range of local artisan products. From weavings and ceramics to leather and silver items, this market is a great place to find authentic Cafayate crafts. The town square and its surroundings are filled with parrillas (steakhouses) and bars, offering the perfect ambiance for dining and enjoying local wines.
Quebrada de Cafayate or Canyon of the Shells, stands out as one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the northwestern region of Argentina. This magnificent canyon is accessible along National Route 68, which stretches from Salta, the provincial capital, to the quaint town of Cafayate, approximately 190 kilometers away, making it conveniently accessible to visitors. Along the route, numerous viewpoints offer stunning panoramic vistas of the Río de las Conchas valley and the encircling mountain ranges. Fun fact: I took this picture on our last visit to Cafayate! This was at the Devil's Throat (La Garganta del Diablo). A popular spot for photos, you will see buses stop here. There were artisans selling jewelry and other items as well as handheld food.
