Our Story

These two met via the dating app Bumble, which is far classier than Tinder. There's a funny story as to how this came about. Spencer was in Anaheim for the Angels opening night with his friend, Rob. He had explained to Rob that he recently gave in to the curiosity and started swiping on Bumble. After watching Spencer carefully inspect a profile of some girl, Rob told him that he was "doing it all wrong." Rob took Spencer's phone and swiped right on like 50 women without even looking at their profiles. Spencer matched with like 3 of the women that Rob swiped right on. Not a good ratio, but hey - it's harder for guys! Guess who one of those women was? You're right, it was Jennifer! Spencer, being the gentleman that he is, always looked through every attractive girls entire photo collection and read each bio. When he matched with Jen, he began his routine. On the fourth photo, his eyes widened. He knew the perfect thing to say after Jen initiated the "hey" or whatever lame conversation starter most people use on dating apps. What he saw in that picture was not only the stunning Jennifer, but also what he thought was an old friend of his from Chapman. Once the conversation started, Spencer asked, "is that girl in the fourth photo named Sheila?" Jen replied with, "yeah, she's my roommate!" Spencer then texted Sheila and requested that she give a glowing review of him to Jen. This gave Jen enough of a reason to at least continue the conversation. However, there was a big dilemma. Spencer and Jen only matched because they happened to be in the same area at the same time. While Jen lived in Newport Beach, Spencer was only visiting from San Diego. But there was another coincidence in store for the two.

...

Jen, being a teacher who graduated from San Diego State, happened to be returning the following week to her old stomping grounds during her spring break. She suggested they meet up while she was in town (note that her friend Danielle insists she is responsible for pushing Jen to meet up with him). They agreed to meet at Spencer's place and then go to Sushi Deli - a favorite restaurant for both of them. The story only gets better. Spencer had just got surgery on his toe only a day or two before. He was limping pretty bad and was able to get sympathy points from Jen immediately. On top of that, he was able to initiate physical contact by using Jen as a crutch. They inhaled a ton of great food and drink and enjoyed each others company until Spencer had to go. Although he didn't really have to go. He just wanted to watch the Sharks playoff game back at his place. He decided to ask Jen if she had any interest in watching the hockey game with him. Much to his surprise, she said yes! The Sharks won, Spencer built up enough courage to kiss Jen and the rest is history. They did the long distance thing for just over one year. Lots of Amtrak and lots of sitting in traffic, but it was worth it. They planned fun little weekends for each other, most of them revolving around sports and drinking and eating excessively. They met each others friends and families. They traveled together. They attended weddings together.

...

From spending 48 hours attached at the hip every weekend, the couple knew they could live together without annoying one another too much. When the time came and they decided to move into a shoe box of an apartment, it didn't affect them in the slightest. They watched a ton of sports on TV while sitting five feet from the screen because if the couch was any further back, it would block the entry way. They ate well because as it turns out, Jen could actually be a pretty good chef when she tried. They frequented bars and breweries regularly, sometimes even just the two of them. No, they don't have a problem! Spencer knew from the start that Jen was special. After dating her for two years, he knew that she was the one. She was beautiful, smart, caring, loving and athletic. She had a great career and a great family. She let him watch Bay Area sports everyday and check his fantasy sports teams constantly. She even let him complain to her constantly about a bunch of players she knew nothing about who were sucking and ruining it for him. She played golf with him. She hadn't left him even though he would "meow" and quote random YouTube videos all the time for no reason. All of his boxes were checked! So on Easter Sunday of 2019, in front of family during the Easter egg hunt, Spencer put a ring on it. Since then, as you probably could've guessed, most of their free time revolves around sports and drinking and eating excessively. They now look forward to drinking and eating excessively with their family and friends on their special day. Sports talk preferred, but not required.
