Sometimes things in life don't go as we plan--and that's not always a bad thing. Sometimes the scenic detour shows you more than you could ever hope for--even if it does add a few more minutes to your drive. We can't always predict what the future will hold, but sometimes God does give you a mighty fine hint--it's just up to you to pick up on it. The two of us met in the Olney Baptist Church Young Adult group. Neither of us were particularly looking for a relationship, but over the next few months we grew closer, taking our meetings from the AV sound booth after church to day long dates at the Smithsonian museums and amusement parks. With the arrival of Covid, our dates moved to the church building itself as we took over one of the big green couches and a TV for movie nights and takeout. There were a lot of movies we had to catch each other up on--and still are! One night in late August of 2020, we were helping my dad set up for the live stream. Shem was talking about a myriad of topics to throw me off the scent of the plan in the back of his mind, and, it worked--a little too well causing him to put it in motion a bit sooner than he expected to that evening. By all accounts, it was your average Wednesday, nothing about it seemed particularly special--but it would be from now on: this was the day he asked me to marry him, with a Pokemon card asking if I would "choose him," and guess what? I did.
