FAQs

Question

How to travel to El Gouna

Answer

The closest airport to El Gouna is Hurghada International. El Gouna is a 40 minute drive from the airport. You can find taxi's when you arrive or arrange transport with your booking.

Question

Visas

Answer

Anyone travelling from the UK will require a visa for Egypt. You can do this before you travel but we found it was much easier to do Visa on arrival. Right before passport control in Hurghada airport there are 3 or 4 desks offering visas. They cost 25USD per person (must be paid in the exact value cash) and the process took less than 5 minutes.

Question

Currency in Hurghada

Answer

Obviously you can pay for things with Egyptian pounds but this can be difficult to find in currency exchange shops. We suggest using US Dollars which are widely accepted.

Question

Where to stay in El Gouna

Answer

El Gouna is a private resort town and therefore access is reserved strictly for guests of the town. There are multiple hotels you can book, or if you prefer, villas and apartments can be rented through airbnb. A few of our favourite hotels that we have visited include Casa Cook, Ancient Sands, The Chedi, Steinenberger and the Movenpick. Though there are rooms available at the wedding venue these have already been reserved for the Bride and Groom's parties. Hurghada is 40 minutes away where there are of course many other hotels, but as previously stated, in order to gain access to the town for the Wedding you must have a booking at one of the resorts inside.

Question

How to travel around El Gouna

Answer

The best way to travel around El Gouna is by taxi or tuktuk. These can both be ordered on demand by hotel concierge. Taxi rides are cheap and prices vary depending how far you go, Tuktuk rides are even cheaper.
