Our Story

In the summer of 2019, we both swiped right and connected on Bumble. Our first date was at Inbound Brewing after work where three hours flew by. We discovered we had much in common right down to our mothers both being third grade teachers. We enjoyed getting to know each other better over walks around the lakes, kayaking, and cooking together. As a couple, we enjoy getting out on long walks, cross country skiing, traveling, and above all, camping. Our shared love for the outdoors has fostered a number of fun adventures such as backpacking on the Superior Hiking Trail, paddling through the boundary waters, and exploring many Minnesota State Parks. With each outing, we grew closer together. In 2021 we talked each other into a wild idea to hike the John Muir Trail. In July, we set out for the Sierra Nevada to hike 220 miles over 15 days. Many might view this as the ultimate relation test. We endured rigorous hiking, unpredictable weather, dehydrated meals, and one shower each… We had an incredible time. By the end, we both knew we wanted to spend our lives together.

The Proposal

Jenn and John went on a cross country ski trip to Banff in Canada. Halfway into the trip, they decided to take a break from skiing and hike up Sulphur Mountain instead. When they got to the top, Jenn suggested they take the gondola down, but John said they should hike down. A couple switchbacks down the mountain, away from the crowd of people, John had to stop and put his spikes on his boots. They pulled off at an overlook where John knelt down, put his spikes on, and took a ring out of his pocket and proposed! Of course, Jenn said yes. Luckily, another hiker coming down the mountain passed a few minutes later and offered to take a picture of the newly engaged couple. He also told all the hikers he passed that the couple had just gotten engaged! Jenn and John were met with congratulations from other hikers the rest of way down the mountain!
