Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Jennifer Dickson and Denis Elliott
We're so excited to share a few of our favourite places in the area. From outdoor activities, to casual local eats, to fine dining, to shopping, to casinos and nightlife – there's no shortage of fun to have on the island!
Stuart Cove

Stuart Cove

Coral Harbour Road, Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas
, +1 242-362-4171

The Stuart's Cove dive operation is located on the less-visited southwest side of New Providence Island, in a cozy cove that continually bustles with activity. Beginners get diving lessons while experienced divers suit up for open-water adventures—the latter including the opportunity to dive with wild sharks. Other options include snorkeling and SNUBA (a cross between snorkeling and SCUBA).

John Watling's Distillery

John Watling's Distillery

17 Delancy Street, Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas
, +1 242-322-2811

Nothing is more Caribbean than going to visit a local rum factory. Just steps away from the Graycliff Hotel and the iconically pink Government House, John Watling's Distillery is set on the spacious Buena Vista Estate. Founded in 1789, it's a taste of the old Bahamas in the heart of Nassau. Speaking of tasting, you can sample Watling's small-batch barrel-aged rums, which come in single-barrel, "pale" (white), amber, and "Buena Vista" five-year aged varieties.

Day Trip to Rose Island

Day Trip to Rose Island

Rose Island, Bahamas Out Islands, Bahamas
, (242) 363-8637

The laid-back Bahamas Out Islands (also know as the Family Islands) are a whole different experience than urban Nassau, and instant serenity can be found via a quick speedboat trip to Rose Island. This near neighbour isn't much more than a glorified sandbar, but there's just enough seclusion, beach, and shade to make for a perfect day trip. Sandy Toes will get you there, serve you lunch and a welcome drink, and provide snorkeling gear. If you fall in love with Rose Island, ask about an overnight stay!

Beach at Lyford Cay Club

Beach at Lyford Cay Club

1 Lyford Cay Drive, Lyford Cay, New Providence, Bahamas

Enjoy a relaxing day at the beautiful and cozy beach at Lyford Cay Club. If you're not staying at the Club, visit the front desk to inquire about a guest pass.

Stingray City

Stingray City

Stingray City, New Providence, Bahamas
, (242) 364-1032

Spend an unforgettable hour with stingrays in their natural habitat at Stingray City Bahamas. A short comfortable boat ride takes you to Stingray City Park, which is home to numerous Southern Rays and the base for the Stingray City Bahamas Snorkel Adventure. The onsite staff can teach you all about these gentle creatures, including how to hold them and walk in the shallow waters among them. The majestic and inquisitive rays will swim up to you for snacks and petting. If interacting with the rays isn't your thing, take advantage of the available snorkeling gear and discover the nearby coral reefs, which are awash with tropical fish.

Nassau Straw Market

Nassau Straw Market

W Bay St, Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas
, +1 242-363-2000

Bahamians have been selling local handicrafts to Nassau visitors for decades, borrowing skills from the original craft to create baskets for carrying fruit and other goods. The tradition continues to this day at the Nassau Straw Market, relocated from its historic home a few years ago following a fire to a new building on Bay Street. These days, it's much more than baskets for sale—you'll also find t-shirts, wood carvings, beaded necklaces, and every type of island-themed souvenir imaginable. As with many tourist markets, several stalls sell items that are mass-produced and imported from abroad. Shop around before you make a purchase and ask vendors if their goods are locally made, so you can support Bahamian business and also get an authentic handicraft.

Androsia Batik Factory

Androsia Batik Factory

Androsia St., Andros Town, Andros, Bahamas
, +1 242-376-9339

Androsia Hand Made Batik Factory has been a local family business on Andros since it started on the beach in the late 1960s. The colorful fabrics, with patterns inspired by the natural beauty of the Bahamas, are hand created using a technique called batik, in which designs are applied to the cloth with wax before the cloth is dyed. Androsia’s fabrics have become an iconic part of Andros, and visitors to the factory can not only watch the artisans at work on a self-guided tour, but also arrange batik lessons. A small store offers batik fabrics by the yard, along with clothes, jewelry and other handicrafts.

They offer a variety of specials throughout the week. Signature dishes on the menu include the “conchiest” conch fritters and old-fashioned conch chowder, cracked lobster, baskets of grilled or fried shrimp, and steaming barbecue ribs. Seafood platters are ideal for sharing, and meals are accompanied by an array of sides. Bahamian Cookin’ is packed with locals during the week and see the cruise ship visitors lining up over the weekends.

With its tropical monkey wallpaper, flamingo-print cushions and vintage countertop till, Bon Vivants, near Sandyport Beach, looks like it belongs on the cover of an interior design magazine. The drinks are as eye-catching as the decor: cocktails are served in tiki mugs, pink pig-shaped pots and crystal glasses. The menu, meanwhile, features signature tipples like the High Tea that’s made with earl grey gin, lemon, honey, lavender bitters and egg white to mimic the taste of tea and cucumber sandwiches.

NOBU

NOBU

One Casino Drive, Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas
, +1 242-363-2000

Located at Atlantis, dining at Nobu is always an occasion and it’s the ideal venue for a celebratory dinner or night out. It’s a great dinner venue to pair with an evening at the Atlantis casino or dancing at one of the many clubs in Paradise Island. It’s perfect for a romantic date night, but is just as good for a special night with the family or for anyone with a passion for incredible sushi or a fan of Nobu’s unique international style.

Sapodilla

Sapodilla

West Bay Street, Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas
, 1 (242) 327-2161

Nassau's newest fine dining restaurant is named for a local fruit and is nicely Bahamian in its treatment of Continental cuisine and décor. The experience begins in the garden, where you can enjoy a cocktail and native drummers. In the art-decorated dining room, service is doting as you select appetizers – honey gingered duck breast with braised red cabbage and pear relish or escargots en croute with Boursin, perhaps. Lovely breads come with house-churned butter. The nicest surprise: Sapodilla still does table-side service for salads, such as marinated conch salad and the classic Caesar, or desserts like the cherries jubilee, made with house-churned ice cream. Entrees range from pastas such as the fresh-made basil pasta with seafood to local fish like pan-seared snapper, and fine meats such as rack of lamb.

Katsuya

Katsuya

1 Baha Mar Blvd, Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas
, +1 242-788-7250

Located at Baha Mar, Katsuya has three kitchens. One is the sushi bar, another the robata 1000-degree grill, and the third the "liquid kitchen," aka, bar. Start with a white grapefruit cosmo with two sotted fresh cranberries or the refreshing cucumber, sake and vodka number from the liquid kitchen. Cucumbers figure largely into the Japanese cuisine at Baha Mar's high-end restaurant, which spreads from casino-side to outdoors in a sleek Philippe Starck-designed vision. The centerpiece sushi bar puts out an excellent roll wrapped in thin cucumber. A palette-cleansing salad combines sweet-sour wakame seaweed with chunks of pickled English cucumber. Perhaps the best veggie surprise, however, the Brussel sprouts dish combines robata-crisped leaves with bonita flakes for the utmost umami. Other inspirations from Chef Katsuya Uechi: baked crab hand rolls, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno and ponzu, French-boned lamb chops, and Wagyu with mushrooms.
