we're getting married!

Welcome to our wedding website. As the trees burst into colour and the autumnal season arrives. We pledge our faith, our love, our lives. We can’t wait to celebrate our special day with you! We’ve created this website as a simple and interactive way to share all of the important details with you in the lead up to our wedding. Our story is one that had many opportunities to develop, specifically 19 years ago; however, it was only by the grace and power of God's will that we personally met 7 years ago! To give you some background, we had always known of each other throughout elementary and high school as we went to the same school since the first grade. However, since I (Jennifer) was a year younger than Daniel, we never really interacted with one another. We did not truly meet until Dan was about to graduate (in grade 12). What's funny is that we didn't even meet in school, but rather at his church because I was there for a friend's Baptism on April 20, 2014. Jenn: "I remember initially locking eyes with Dan while I was walking in the church. My first thought was, 'Oh, I see some people from my school here.' Then as I was turning, I hear a rush of footsteps come up from behind me. When I turned around, I saw Dan, and he said to me, 'You're Jennifer, right?' And the rest was history." Dan: "I felt something push me to approach Jenn when I first saw her. So while she was minding her own business, I quickly ran towards her, tapped her shoulder and stole her away from her conversation with a friend." Over the next few weeks, we began to talk more and more, especially at school (our classmates can vouch for that as Dan was always at my locker). It was obvious that something had started. Our first date was officially on May 9, 2014, where Dan brought me for Starbucks' Happy Hour (half off any Frappuccino) and tried to show off his (at the time) terrible stick-shift driving skills. Through our love of trying new foods, new adventures, and of course, God, we began to form a stronger & deeper connection that brought us to where we are today!

Daniel had always known that he would one day pop the question! University/College forced them to a partial long distance relationship and after having dated for five years, he knew that it would have to happen after Jennifer's graduation. In the summer of 2019, Jenn's family brought up that they might go to Hong Kong during the winter to visit their family and relatives. Dan knew this would be the perfect opportunity to find a special location where he could ask Jenn to marry him, surrounded with her close family on the opposite side of the world! He spent months of planning a destination proposal: scouting for a location, hiring a local photographer, getting decorations set up, the logistics, etc. Fast forward to arriving Hong Kong with Jenn's family. On December 4, 2019, Dan got down on one knee on the shores of Repulse Bay Beach, and popped the question. Jenn was SO shocked and surprised! (Check out the Photos section for some key emotional moments.) She had no idea that Dan had been planning this at all and that her whole family was able to keep this a secret throughout the past few months & during the trip. Well of course, she said yes! We can't wait to celebrate our next chapter/stage of our lives with all of you!

The ninth marks a pretty cool & special day for us. Not only was our first official date on the 9th of May 2014, but now we will also be getting married on the 9th of October 2021! In our first year of dating, we celebrated monthiversaries - showering one another with little presents and cards every month on the ninth. And when we ran out of gift ideas/realized how much money we spent haha, we resorted to celebrating our anniversary annually in May instead. Now, we hope to begin celebrating our wedding anniversary every October, with the added bonus of the Thanksgiving long weekend! :)
