The Proposal

Jenn's Version

I had been planning how I wanted to propose to Shayna months before it actually happened - I believe I first told our friends Brian and Marisol about it in early Oct. I decided to pop the question at Kirby Cove, an adorable beach spot with a wooden swing overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge during our trip to San Francisco in November. On the day of, Shay and I planned to meet Marisol at the top of the overlook and from there it would be an easy mile hike down to the cove. It was anything but easy. Being extremely nervous I wanted to make sure to make it up to the outlook early and doing so totally spaced on getting lunch beforehand. No big deal we could get food after right? Too bad Marisol was delayed about 45 minutes and I wildly underestimated how hungry Shayna would get. Huge. Mistake. The entire time we were waiting for Marisol, Shayna was getting hangrier and hangrier. Marisol finally arrived (with snacks, thanks TJs veggie sticks!) and we made our ascent to the cove. I was so impatient/excited/nervous that I set out down that dirt road as fast as my little legs would power me. We finally made it to the sand and I bee-lined for the swing. It was finally the time. I told Shayna to get onto the swing and Marisol could take some cute pictures of me pushing her. After a bit of a struggle Shay eventually got up there and I proceeded to push her a few times. I then went to my purse where I had the ring box waiting. My heart was pounding! I was terrified Shay would turn around to see why I stopped pushing before I got down on one knee. I got lucky and made my move. I went down on one knee behind her, pulled out the ring, and waited for her to turn. "Jennifer Lynn are you serious?! You're joking. Is this for real? What are you doing?!" were the first words out of her mouth. "Yes I'm serious! Get off the swing!" Eventually I got her down and asked, "Shayna Aileen, will you marry me?" Then she said yes!

The Proposal

Shayna's Version

After spending a lovely afternoon walking through Golden Gate Park, Jenn and I headed to Kirby Cove – a cute beach spot in Marin that included a wooden swing and a gorgeous backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was mid-afternoon and we had yet to eat lunch, however, Jenn was adamant about getting across the bridge to meet our friend Marisol and said we could grab something later. We reach the top of the overlook early when we receive a text stating that Marisol was running behind schedule. Let me tell you, my blood sugar was low and I was hangry. After what felt like eternity, Marisol arrived and thankfully had snacks in her car – the beast was tamed! Jenn appeared to be a ball of anxiety and was nervous that it was getting late so we quickly began our decent towards the cove. Marisol and I are catching up as we walk, while on the other hand Jenn is power walking down the dirt road ahead of us. Once we arrive to the beach I am taking it all in…as Jenn speeds ahead straight for the swing and tells us to hurry up. There was a short line to get onto the swing so we waited our turn (some more impatiently than others). It is finally my turn to get on the swing! With some assistance of Jenn pushing me, I am now in my happy place swinging from a tree on the beach overlooking the Bay. I am in such a state of awe of the beauty that when I turn around to see her down on one knee, I legit continue to swing as the first words out of my mouth are “Jennifer Lynn, are you serious?! You’re joking. Is this for real? What are you doing?!” Jenn’s response is “Yes I’m serious! Get off the swing!” As I struggle off the swing, she then proceeds to get down on one knee again and ask me to marry her and without any hesitation I say yes!! She is shaking and I am still in such a whirlwind of emotions that I barely believe it happened. Thankfully Marisol captured it all (including her own shadow haha)! It was such a magical and unforgettable day 😊
