A plotline straight out of a Hallmark rom-com. Girl meets boy in their apartment elevator. It's crazy to think how fast time has gone by, but we couldn't be more excited that our first full day of marriage will be three years to the date from when we met.
Believe it or not, this was the first interaction we had. I had just finished a run and was on my way to a sand volleyball game a short walk down the road from our apartment. Jenn, new to the building, was entering as I was exiting the elevator. I noticed her right away as a pretty girl who I hadn't seen in the building before. We had a short interaction where she asked where I typically do my running. I was late to my game, so the conversation was brief. Later that summer, we again crossed paths in the elevator. She was with two of my close friends from high school. I was shocked to see them, but the look on Jenn's face was unforgettable when I said "Hey, Ryan. Hey, Jess. What are you doing here?" Turns out Jenn knew them from college and was having a party on the viaduct above our building. I attended, but our interaction was again short lived as I had an Indians game to get to. A few weeks later the power went out in our building, and Jenn decided to message me on Instagram about it while also extending an invite to her Halloween Party. This is where the sparks really began to fly, and the rest is history.
It was a typical summer day at my apartment in Cleveland. I was about to go meet up with some friends in the Flats. As I was getting into the elevator, I saw Kyle for the first time. He had no shirt on, six pack popping, and shirt in hand (don't know why he didn't just have it on). It looked like he was about to go on a run, so to make conversation with the cute shirtless guy in the elevator I asked where he ran in the area. He said "The Towpath" and immediately sprinted out of the elevator. The awkward encounters didn't stop there. I again saw Kyle in the elevator the day I was having a party on the rooftop of our building. This time he got in the elevator and said "What's up Ryan?" Yes, to my surprise he was friends with my friends from college coming to my party. I decided to invite him up to the party as well. He was there maybe 10 minutes, downed serval hotdogs, and left for the Indians game. Some time went by. One night, the power went out in our building from a storm and I was stressed because I had my biggest event of the year that week. I got up at 4:30AM that day, packed up a cooler, and started heading into work. I'm carrying this cooler on pitch black stairs when I smack into someone and hear them kind of fall down the stairs. I said sorry like a million times and kept going. Later that day I messaged Kyle on Instagram to ask if the power was back on. We started talking a little and I found out he was the one I hit on the stairs with the cooler. I wanted to make more friends in Cleveland, so I invited him to my Halloween party. Kyle came to my party shirtless dressed as a boxer. Okay I will admit it did catch my eye, and yes I did really want him to come to my party. That was the night it all began for us.
