We met in 2015 when we became partners on the ambulance. As we started talking, we realized our parents had been friends and ambulance partners over 20 years ago! They even attended each other's weddings. Flash forward almost five years and we had become best friends. The night we started officially dating I had invited CJ over to my new apartment to help pick up and assemble a desk and offered to make him dinner in return. The homemade mac and cheese must have been pretty good because we ended the night professing our love for each other!
We planned a weekend getaway to New Hampshire, our favorite place, to take a short break from our busy schedules of school and work. We drove up through the beautiful Kancamagus Highway and tried to stop at all the scenic overlooks to take pictures, but it was raining sideways and the temperature felt arctic! Apparently, his plan was to propose at one of those overlooks but he was worried the rain and wind would blow the ring, or us, off the side of the mountain. Our last stop was at the Fourth Iron, a beautiful historic railroad bridge. As we were walking up to the bridge the rain stopped and the clouds parted to reveal blue sky. I stopped to take a picture and turned around to show him and he was down on one knee. The weather was perfect for our moment, but the cold rain returned as soon as we got back in the truck!
