Jenna and Whitney met playing soccer in Palo Alto 4 years ago. It wasn't until they started playing soccer on Tuesday nights in San Francisco in 2015 that they started to become closer friends. One night Whitney forgot his soccer socks and Jenna had a second pair in her bag. That's when they exchanged phone numbers...so that Jenna could remind Whitney that she wanted her socks back clean. Whitney showed her that he knew how to do laundry and that's the last time that he did a load...just kidding ;) After that Whitney bought Jenna a beer at a championship soccer celebration. Then he asked her on a date (that she didn't know was a date) to watch his friend's band- The Silhouette Era. And that was the beginning of a great many adventures.
Running Bay to Breakers has been a yearly activity for Jenna and Whitney three years in a row. They decided to train in 2017 because the distance that year increased from 10k to a 15k. They had been running shorter runs until one day Whitney suggested going for a longer run toward the Emeryville Marina, about 3 miles west of their house in Oakland. Jenna had begun to feel sick before the run and almost wimped out, but Whitney was uncharacteristically excited for the run, so with Panda in tow, they set off. Once they had made it across the train tracks and into the Marina, Jenna was cornered and Whitney stopped, dropped to one knee and proposed that they become husband and wife. Jenna was in disbelief "Get Up"! Eyeroll. As the sun began to set over the Bay Jenna came to realize he was serious and she said "YES". The ring was two sizes too big but Jenna wore it the 3 miles home, as Whitney tried to keep cool.
