You can't beat a nice walk or run along the shaded Chessie Trail. This rail-trail is less than five minutes from The Georges and parallels the scenic Maury River. If you're up for the total path, it's seven miles, comprised of a portion of the old Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad bed as well as canal towpaths. We love this trail because it’s easily accessible while also making you feel like you're a world away.
Natural Bridge is a must-see! One of the seven natural wonders of the modern world is only 20 minutes from downtown Lexington. The area surrounding this amazing sight is now a state park. You can hike, picnic, and explore a historic hotel property all around this unique setting.
For an afternoon escape or an adventure on the river for fishing, swimming, or lounging, Goshen Pass is such a treat. We love to take a scenic drive out Route 39 and enjoy the views from one of the breathtaking overlooks of this cut of the Maury River. Learn more here.
This beautiful vineyard is one of our absolute favorite spots - mainly because Sidney proposed here! This special spot between Lexington and Staunton sits along another favorite of ours - the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can enjoy unbelievable Blue Ridge Mountain views and sip cool climate wines here - hopefully on your way to experience our favorite restaurant, Newtown Baking.
To say we have a favorite restaurant is a bold statement for us. We love to cook and we're picky about our food! Newtown Baking has the best wood-fired pizzas and homemade Caesar salad we've ever had. Their takeout offerings have been a saving grace for us through quarantine. They are huge supporters of local producers so everything is also extra fresh. If you make this trip, be sure to check out historic downtown Staunton too!
