How we met

A love story a decade in the making

I moved to Williamstown Elementary School in the 5th grade and Cullen was in my homeroom class. He proceeded to ask me out on a piece of paper multiple times a week, asking me to check "yes" or "no" to being his Girlfriend. One time I finally checked "yes" and wrote a note saying "turn it over" where I proceeded to write "jk no". Poor guy was devastated but relentless. Looking back it was the sweetest thing, but 10 year old Jenna did not think so. We stayed friends through Middle School going to Church and playing basketball together. The summer of our 8th Grade year everything changed and I started to like him too. By Fall of our Freshman year of High School on August 28th, 2015, Cullen asked me to be his Girlfriend for the final time! We dated all through High School going to all of our Homecoming and Prom dances together. After High School Cullen attended Alderson Broaddus University and I went to West Virginia University at Parkersburg. I spent many weekends traveling to see Cullen where he pitched for the Battlers. In 2020, I opened a custom apparel business, Spirit 111, where Cullen became my unpaid employee for many years. In 2022, we bought a house together just 2 blocks from our shop where we now operate as co-owners. In 2026, on a Winter cabin trip to Franklin, WV, we stopped at one of our favorite disbursed camping locations to do some hiking and fishing. As I was reading by the icy river while he was fishing, Cullen asked me to marry him. There was no doubt in anyone's mind I wasn't going to say "YES"! We continued to Franklin, WV and had a wonderful week in a snowy wonderland riding out winter storm Fern. We kept the engagement a secret until returning home so we could tell our loved ones in person. We have decided to elope this year, 2026, on our 11th year anniversary together at Mower Basin in the Monongahela National Forest where we have camped many times. Our reception will follow on Sunday back in Marietta, OH, where we cannot wait to celebrate with our loved ones. I am so truly thankful to have been able to call Cullen my best friend for so many years. It has been so fun growing up with him and I cannot wait to grow with him in this next chapter and many more to come!
