B.J. and Jenna met through a mutual friend at Jenna's first Iowa Hawkeye football game in 2013. The couple were introduced at B.J.'s aunt and uncle's tailgate, and they attended the game together. As fate would have it, they ended up sitting next to each other, and B.J. wowed Jenna with his Tarzan yell during the game. Growing up an Iowa State fan, it has taken a lot of hard work by B.J. to get Jenna to cheer for the Hawkeyes. They continue to go to almost every home game each fall, and Jenna is finally participating in the I-O-W-A chant!

Jenna has joined B.J. and his Jensen extended family on their annual summer trip to Iowana Beach Resort in northern Minnesota for the last 4 years. On their trip in 2019, B.J. asked Jenna one evening if she wanted to go sit on the dock. While sitting there, B.J. was silent (unlike his normal self) and began breathing very deeply. Jenna looked behind them at one point and noticed the rest of the family had gotten up from their seats and were standing together looking at them. It was then that Jenna realized something fishy was happening! B.J. pulled out a floatie keychain with a ring attached to it, and got down on one knee. It took Jenna a while to respond due to the pure shock she was in, but eventually she said yes. B.J's aunts, uncles, and cousins were just as surprised as Jenna was, as they didn't know this was going to happen. They celebrated their engagement throughout the rest of the week with their family.
